COLORADO SPRINGS – The Marion House Soup Kitchen in Colorado Springs is now more energy efficient.

The kitchen’s new solar power is all thanks to a donation from Peak View Solar.

With the new system in place, Catholic Charities says it will save $500 a month in electric costs. The organization says the savings will allow them to leverage money into helping more people and it sets an example.

“It makes us one of only a few kitchens in the country that is providing or is powered by clean energy. We’re the only one in Colorado provided by clean energy,” said Andy Barton with Catholic Charities.

The donation is estimated to be worth over $75,000.
