CAÑON CITY – This Summer may be the perfect time for you to take the family white water rafting, or are these new water levels better for you thrill seekers?

When it comes to rafting this summer, it’s the snow fall that has the biggest impact. This year, the snow pack is almost 50% above average, which translates to a fun filled and long rafting season.

Our friends at Raft Masters say they expect the season to continue through Labor Day, but first they’re waiting on that snow pack to melt.

“This is one of those years that comes around once a decade at best,” said Dennis Wied the Owner of Raft Masters.

“It’ll take a week of warm weather and we’ve had a fairly cool spring time,” Wied continued. “It hasn’t started yet, but when it does it will be epic.”

For thrill-seekers, mid-June is the best time to hit the river and families, you’re also in luck this summer! While July and August are often the best weather months, they can accommodate families all Summer long.
They simply switch families to a section of the river that’s the most compatible to their skill level.

In fact, it’s not too early to get a rafting trip in now. The water levels are low to medium currently, but as soon as that snow starts melting it’s all going to change.
