FOUNTAIN – April is the “Month of the Military Child” and schools in Fountain-Fort Carson District 8 honored military families by wearing purple.

“Purple Up” day was also observed by the town of Fountain and Colorado Springs.

Purple represents the color made by combing all the colors of our armed services. It also recognizes the strong military ties in District 8.

“Really what we wanted to do is show them that we support them, that we want to wrap our arms around them as well, and show that we really value the sacrifices and strength that they have as military children,” said Christy McGee, with the district.

The district said 77 percent of their students have military connections.
