OTERO COUNTY – The Otero County Sheriff’s Office has identified 33-year-old Christina Martinez as the Manzanola mother who stabbed her daughters, ages eight and ten, at their home before putting them in an SUV and deliberately driving into the Arkansas River.

Martinez was discharged from the hospital Monday and is now being held on a $500,000 bond at the Otero County Jail.

She is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of felony child abuse, and arson.

Due to the nature of this case, and the fact that children are involved, no further details will be released at this time.

All three were transported to the hospital for medical treatment after the crash. The Sheriff’s Office said that while their injuries are serious, they are all expected to survive.

Martinez is scheduled to appear in the Otero County District Court on April 24.
