PUEBLO WEST – From El Paso County down to Pueblo, Wednesday carried a strange mix of weather. News5 viewers reported hail, snow, extreme winds, and even a gustnado out in Pueblo West.

Sam Pisciotta, a teacher and coach at Pueblo West High School, says he’s never seen anything like it.

“First I thought I was looking at a tornado forming like this was going to start,” explains Pisciotta. “I ended up texting the video to the girls and said should we have practice or should we run for a storm cellar?”

Even though it looked like a tornado, the phenomenon was a massive gathering of dust making its way across the baseball field.

“We get pretty heavy winds here and we do get some smaller dust devils but I’ve never seen anything like that, nothing that big,” says Pisciotta.

The irony of swirling winds impacted the campus is not lost on the teacher, “Pueblo West it’s interesting because our mascot is the Cyclone.”
