“Donate Life” In April

Two Colorado Springs hospitals, U-C Health Memorial and Penrose St. Francis, are marking “National Donate Life” Month across the country. The hospitals held ceremonies on Monday, flying the “Donor Alliance” flags, that will fly all month long.

The flags are a way for the hospitals and their staff to acknowledge the courage of those who have given life to others by donating vital organs. One person can help multiple patients. Terri Reed, who lost her son, but made sure his driver’s license reflected he was a donor, was able to help others survive with his passing.

Reed told News5 on Monday, “Knowing that other people can live by these beautiful gifts of donating, whether it be organs, tissue, eyes, it gives somebody a second chance”.

If you are interested, the Donor Alliance reports the need for organ donation is overwhelming, with more than 120,000 people waiting for organs nationwide.
