COLORADO SPRINGS – Crews successfully replaced a damaged 1,500-pound window at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s tiger exhibit months after August’s damaging hail storm.
The zoo said there was a crack in the old window, but it said there was no danger to visitors after the storm.
The zoo said the new window can withstand multiple blows from objects like hammers, bricks and hail. It’s approximately 8 feet round and more than 18 inches thick. It’s also about 60 times as heavy as a car’s windshield.
It took a crane, and a brief relocation for the big cats to complete the installation, but the project is complete.
