Bicyclist struck by car sustains serious injuries

ROCKY FORD – A bicyclist was hit by a car Wednesday afternoon on Colorado 50, three miles east of Rocky Ford.

Carol Aragon, 54, from Rocky Ford was driving when she collided with David Bumstead, 70, from La Junta who was riding his bike eastbound along Colorado 50 according to Colorado State Patrol.

Bumstead swerved out of the right turn lane for Otero County Road 23 and into the right lane eastbound on Colorado 50 when he was struck by Aragon.

Aragon was not injured in the crash. Bumstead was transported to the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center and later transferred to a Colorado Springs hospital with serious injuries.

The Colorado State Patrol wants to remind bicyclists to use extra caution when riding along highways.
