COLORADO SPRING – Officers have a suspect in custody for an armed robbery on the east side of the city following an hour long search of two neighborhoods to the northwest of N Carefree Circle and Powers Blvd.
He’s been identified as Vincent Lupori, born in 1999. So far, CSPD has not released a booking photo. Lupori may face charges for robbery, aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
Lt. Howard Black with Colorado Springs Police says the suspect was involved in at least 3 robberies in an hour. The first on Uintah, the second near Palmer Park, then the Valero store where he got into a fight over his weapon with the clerk when it fired and wounded the employee. The clerk’s wound is not serious.
Just before 9 a.m. the call came in about the shooting at the store. The suspect was described as a white male in his 20’s wearing a dark hoodie, last seen leaving the area in a white Ford Escape with temporary tags.
There were also several calls to 911 about traffic crashes connected to the vehicle.
The suspect was caught in the Old Farm neighborhood just a few minutes after an alert was sent out via Everbridge to homeowners and to people following CSPD accounts on social media.
The neighborhood advisories covered homes in the areas bordered by Stetson Hills to the north, N Carefree Circle to the south, Oro Blanco to the west, and Powers Blvd to the east to remain indoors during the search.
News5 heard unconfirmed reports of several neighbors calling police to report seeing a young man or “prowler” in the neighborhoods before and during the search effort. Police confirm there was one homeowner who called police to help them track and arrest the suspect.
