EL PASO COUNTY – The Colorado State Patrol wrapped up its investigation into a fatal crash on I-25 near the Mesa Ridge Parkway exit Wednesday night.

All lanes of I-25 were reopened just before 11 p.m. after a three-car crash that left one driver dead.  CSP identified the man who was killed as 33-year-old Colorado Springs man Lucas Huffman.

Authorities said a 2014 Volkswagen Passat rear-ended the Honda CRV that Huffman was driving on southbound I-25 causing it to go into the median and into oncoming traffic where he hit a sedan in the northbound lanes. Troopers said Huffman was ejected from his SUV and killed at the scene.

CSP said all drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries. In a news release about the crash, troopers said “charges are pending at this time.”

At one time, CSP alternated northbound and southbound traffic on the southbound side of the interstate, causing significant backups on both northbound and southbound I-25 during rush hour.
