COLORADO SPRINGS – The mother of a two-year-old child shot and killed in October 2018 will go on trial this coming June on charges of child abuse resulting in death.

32-year old Melissa Adamson was arrested in the wake of deputies being flagged down by the parents looking for help in saving the child. Despite life saving efforts, the son was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to detectives, Adamson kept a loaded gun in the house as protection against her meth dealer. The arrest affidavit outlines a narrative of her seeing her dealer outside on home surveillance, so she loaded the pistol, then went into another room. She then heard a gunshot.

As it was determined the boy shot himself, the death is not considered a homicide.

Adamson case is scheduled for pre-trial hearings in early June and a trial start of June 18th.
