COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado Springs police identified the man suspected of stealing a CSPD police cruiser and crashing it on I-25 Saturday night.
Officers arrested 36-year-old Richard Payne after they said he assaulted an officer, stole a cruiser and rolled it several times in the median of SB I-25 near the Uintah exit.
Payne was arrested for second-degree assault on a peace officer, aggravated motor vehicle theft, and driving under the influence of drugs.
Both Payne and the officer suffered minor injuries.
The crash and investigation shut down I-25 between the Bijou and Uintah exits for several hours Saturday night. The road reopened at approximately 11:43 p.m. Saturday.
