CAÑON CITY – The Fremont County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a deadly shooting in Cañon City Monday morning.

54-year-old David Draper was pronounced dead at the scene near West New York and Pennslyvania Ave.

Preliminary investigation results indicated the shooting was an isolated incident and appears to be the result of ongoing issues between residents of the home according to Cañon City Police Department.

Police say three people were inside the home at the time of the shooting and only Draper was shot.

The man who police believe fired the deadly shot is 67-year-old Ranald Kenter Chardoul. He claimed self-defense and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The other resident of the home involved in the incident was a woman who is cooperating with police in the investigation.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit responded to help the police document and collect evidence at the scene.

No charges have been filed at this point in the investigation.

A review of the circumstances will be completed with the District Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete.

This remains an active investigation and we will continue to bring you updates as they become available.
