MONUMENT – After several days of warmer weather, towns across the Pikes Peak region are getting a big blast of cold air.

Wednesday brought some snowfall to the region, but the big issue for many – extremely cold temperatures.

Truck driver Nathan Hayes said, “It’s been nasty. It’s been cold…I picked up in Cheyenne, Wyoming this morning.”

Conditions were windy and snowy there, and didn’t improve much as Hayes traveled through Colorado.

“Traffic was horrendous in Denver…I don’t know what the deal was. I know there was a bunch of cars on the side of the road that were wrecked…the interstates, even though they’re open, they’re really slick. I’ve seen three or four cars today that slid off the road.”

His trek from Denver to Monument took almost three and half hours, and the cold only made things worse.

“Don’t stay out in it long. That’s all I can tell you.”

The weather wasn’t pleasant for locals like Ava Eikanger who said, “It’s pretty cold…on the way home from school it was like blizzarding a little bit.”

However, it wasn’t a shock for her either as it was just another typical winter day in her home state.

Eikanger said, “Colorado’s just super crazy with weather – warm, hot, freezing, snow.”
