LA VETA – If you’re planning on travelling US 160 on your way east or west be aware all of La Veta Pass is closed due to a major accident.
State Patrol confirms a tractor-trailer and smaller vehicle collided, resulting in the death of the car driver.
Authorities confirm the crash happened just after 11 a.m. There is no estimated time of reopening as of 1:25 p.m.
The area is just north of Muleshoe and west of Walsenburg at mile marker 277 in Costilla County.
Colorado Department of Transportation cameras in the area show winter conditions on the road with snow and slush.
The use of alternate routes is encouraged. However, a detour to another major thoroughfare will add several hours to the driver due to heading to Salida or south into New Mexico.
Be on the lookout for State Patrol diverting traffic onto smaller county roads.
