COLORADO – A man wanted in Texas for crimes relating to child abuse and indecency with a child is now in custody in the Douglas County Jail.
On Tuesday, a deputy assigned to the Reedsport Patrol Office witnessed a green 1996 Toyota Camry traveling northbound on Highway 101 commit a minor traffic violation, resulting in the deputy pulling the car over.
The male driver would not provide a license or any form of identification. He initially gave the deputy a fake name and birth date.
The man was later identified as 40-year-old Brian Smith of Deadwood, Oregon after the deputy arrested him and found his wallet.
A background check provided the deputy with information regarding the warrant out for Smith’s arrest in Texas.
Smith was temporarily in the Reedsport Municipal Jail until he was transferred to the Douglas County Jail where he is being held on a no-bail warrant awaiting to be extradited to Texas.
