COLORADO SPRINGS – Charges of felony first degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery were formally filed today against a woman arrested in December for the killing of Nicholas Romero.

22-year-old Saphire Nicks will return to an El Paso County courtroom later this month as the case progresses.

The victim, 32-year-old Nicholas Romero, was found shot to death in the parking lot of the Windmill Apartments on December 9th.  Colorado Springs Police were first called to the area on a report of shots fired.

Detectives caught up with Nicks a little more than a week after the killing.

A second suspect in the case was publicly identified on New Year’s Eve as the police department asked for help finding 20-year-old Savino Benjamin Anceno, who is considered a transient resident in the city. He was arrested a week later on a charge of first-degree murder.

News5 is working to learn more about how Nicks and Anceno knew Romero.
