BRECKENRIDGE – Just before midnight on Dec. 21st, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request to assist the Breckenridge Police Department.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the scene on S. French Street and were briefed by the Breckenridge Sergeant that he had stopped a vehicle that was driving without headlights, and when the driver was contacted, the Sergeant recognized the man as an off-duty Breckenridge Police Officer.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, “to avoid any appearance of conflict,” the investigation was turned over to the Sheriff’s Deputies, who continued the investigation and arrested the driver.
The Sheriff’s Office said the driver was identified as 24-year-old Garret Frye from Breckenridge.
Frye was booked into the Summit County Jail on charges of driving under the influence and driving without headlights. He posted bond and was released the next day.
No further information on the incident has been released at this time.
