ENGLEWOOD – An Englewood Police Officer spread some Christmas cheer this holiday season by purchasing gifts for little girls whose presents were stolen.

The Perkins’ family home was burglarized earlier this month, and the thieves took all the presents that were wrapped under the tree.

After the burglary, Englewood Police Officer Chris Caggiano came to the home to record the report. The family thought that was the last time they would see him.

Much to the Perkins’ surprise, Caggiano showed up at their doorstep just a couple days later with presents.

“They unwrapped them and took what they wanted,” said Layla Perkins. “Because they’re the robbers and they’re like the Grinch.”

Officer Caggiano paid for the presents with money out of his own pocket. He said it’s not uncommon for officers to do this kind of thing, but people don’t always hear about it.
