COLORADO SPRINGS – On Nov. 1st, the Colorado Springs Police Department began grant-funded increased speeding enforcement with funds from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

CSPD said since that time, the department has conducted several deployments to target excessive speed in areas with a high number of traffic crashes that resulted in injuries.

Since beginning the program on Nov. 1st, CSPD said officers have issued 213 additional speeding tickets, with a total of 260 traffic violations.

According to CSPD, officers will continue the increased enforcement through Sept. 2019. The department said its goal is to reduce excessive vehicle speeds that contribute to traffic collisions, injuries, and fatalities in the City of Colorado Springs.

CSPD said the highest speed ticketed by officers to date is 77 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone.
