PUEBLO – Funeral services for Matthew Moreno, the Las Animas County Sheriff’s Deputy killed in a crash last week, were held Thursdayin Pueblo.
Sgt. Moreno’s family and friends participated in a funeral mass at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart before a police memorial inside Pueblo Memorial Hall.
The Fallen Hero Foundation said Sgt. Moreno’s family members are part of the Pueblo community, and they welcome neighbors and the public to attend either service. Public parking for the memorial service will be available in the Maint St. Parking Garage, located at 118 S. Main St.
Moreno was involved in a three-car crash on Highway 12 east of Trinidad that claimed the lives of Moreno, Taelor Valdez, 23, and her son Ezekiel Valdez. Deputies Kenny Lopez and Deputy Trent Gomez were injured in the crash. The Colorado State Patrol investigation of what caused the head-on collision has not been released.
