BUENA VISTA – The U.S. Forest Service is asking for your help to track down the person responsible for dumping more than a ton of tires on federal lands.

Rangers found the tires near Forest Service Roads 344/343 in the direction of Cottonwood Lake. That is about 10 miles to the southwest of Buena Vista. Rangers estimate that the tires were dumped around the beginning of December.

The forest service said there were more than 2,000 used tires found. Of course, dumping tires or other trash in national forests is illegal.

If you have any information about who was responsible, call the Salida Ranger District at 719-539-3591.
