SEVERANCE – Snowballs are now legal in Severance!

A nine-year-old boy in Severance, Colorado was trying to get a nearly 100-year-old law banning snowballs changed in his town, and he succeeded.

Dane Best went before the town board of Severance and told the council the law was outdated and prevented kids from getting the exercise they need during the winter months.

“It was supposed to be a quick meeting to talk to the mayor and trustees,” said Dane’s father. “Now he’s getting interviewed by every news station in the state and newspapers across the county. It’s pretty crazy. We’re proud of him. Snowball effect I guess.”

The law said it was illegal to throw or shoot any stone or missile at a person. By the law, snowballs were considered missiles.

Board members voted unanimously Monday and said snowballs are not a missile.
