CENTENNIAL – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect is dead and another was hurt during an officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning in Centennial.

Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said deputies began pursuing a vehicle around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday near Broadway and C-470. He said shots were fired from the suspect vehicle as the pursuit happened, and again when the pursuit ended in a crash near Dry Creek Road and I-25.

No deputies or officers were hurt, but one of the suspects was shot and killed by a deputy. Another suspect was taken to the hospital and a third person in the suspect’s stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee was arrested. The suspect who was shot is expected to survive.

The identities of the people in the SUV have not been released. A total of five deputies were involved in the shooting. Those deputies will be placed on paid administrative leave as part of the sheriff’s office’s use of force policy. The shooting is currently under investigation.

Dry Creek Road is expected to be closed until mid-day while investigators gather evidence. Exit ramps from I-25 are currently closed as well. If you need to access the area, exit at Arapahoe Road and use other side roads to get north and south.

No lanes of I-25 have been shut down due to the shooting.
