DENVER – Two men are now in police custody and facing charges in a shooting that occurred near LoDo in Denver on Monday night.
A total of five people were shot at 21st and Lawrence just after 4:00 p.m. near Coors Field. All five are men. One person was killed in the shooting and the others were taken to Denver Health to be treated.
According to Denver Police Chief Pazen, two men were involved in a shootout and the people nearby were caught up in the gunfire. One of those men was transported to the hospital and the other fled in a vehicle.
Chief Pazen says 24-year old Josh Hayward and 24-year old Deshay Armstrong were both arrested this morning. Hayward was taken into custody at about 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning and Armstrong was one of the people originally transported to the hospital after the shooting.
Hayward faces first-degree murder charges and Armstrong is facing federal weapons charges. Police say the shooting was very much a targeted incident and not a random act.
The Denver Police are hoping that all of the witnesses will come forward and tell police what they saw. Chief Pazen says many people who saw what took place fled the scene.
