COLORADO SPRINGS – Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center is making sure every veteran and their family has a turkey this Thanksgiving.

The center is partnering with area businesses and sponsors of this year’s Operation Turkeys for the Troops.

“It says that the community cares,” said Maj. Darin Mitchell.

More than 100 Thanksgiving baskets and 1,200 turkeys will be handed out this year.

“For a soldier, especially whether or not the soldier is deployed, it means that people in Fort Carson, or that family, knows that people out here care,” Mitchell said.

Unit ministry members at Fort Carson help identify soldiers in need and Mt. Carmel helps line up resources to fill the need.
