3 injured after oil tank battery catches fire in Weld County

Posted

WELD COUNTY – Investigators are looking into what caused an oil tank battery to catch fire off of Highway 14 and County Road 83 in Weld County Saturday.

When firefighters arrived they found one of the tanks fully engulfed in flames and three injured workers. One of the employees had to be airlifted to a hospital in northern Colorado because of the severity of their burns. The other two people had minor injuries and they were transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office says the initial investigation suggests the fire started during some type of maintenance operation, but at this point, it’s too early to tell the exact cause of the blaze.

The names of those injured have not been released.
