COLORADO SPRINGS – The new Adams Crossing Bridge is now open for traffic on the Springs west side.

“Opening this bridge today is fantastic,” said Stan VanderWerf, El Paso County commissioner.

The new bridge over Fountain Creek will help to straighten out Colorado Avenue into Manitou Springs, making for an easier and safer drive. It has also been built higher to help with local flooding issues.

“This bridge being raised higher is going to allow for much more flow of water underneath and that will really help the area,” VanderWerf said.

This is just one of many projects in the $35 million Westside Avenue Action Plan. With the bridge complete, it opens up space for work to get started on other projects.

“We’ve got three new areas where we can send a contractor and work and really start pushing construction forward at a faster pace,” said Chris Jennings, project manager.

The Westside Avenue Action Plan has been underway since January 2017. The entire project is expected to be complete sometime in the spring of 2019.
