EL PASO COUNTY – The Hanover Fire Protection District said an RV-type trailer is a total loss after a fire early Thursday morning in El Paso County.

Hanover Fire Chief Carl Tatum tells News 5 one dog was badly injured in the fire and had to be put down at the scene. Another dog also suffered injuries but is still alive. At least six other dogs were picked up by neighbors or the Humane Society.

Firefighters said the owner of the trailer were not there,  and firefighters had to let the dogs out of their kennels to escape from the flames. No people were hurt.

Firefighters said they received a report around 5 a.m. about a fully-involved structure fire off of Lakota Point, which is located south of the Pikes Peak International Raceway.

It took them about an hour to get the fire under control.
