PUEBLO COUNTY – The race is on for Pueblo County farmers to pick all of there green chile peppers before a hard freeze comes in this weekend.
That’s the signal of the end of chile growing season out on the mesa.
The wet weather this week presented a challenge for crews to pick the chiles, and other crops in time. Muddy fields complicate driving and walking. Plus the cold, wet conditions aren’t the best for agile hands.
Out at Milberger Farms we’re told they have more than a thousand bushels of chile left after the final harvest.
