SECURITY-WIDEFIELD – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is now handling the investigation into a shooting in the Lorsen Ranch neighborhood of Security-Widefield as a homicide.
The shooting happened just after 11:00 p.m. Sunday night on Tranters Creek Way. That’s just east of the intersection of Fontaine Blvd. and Marksheffel Rd.
Neighbors told police that they heard gunshots, looked outside and saw the victim on the ground. Deputies and medics made attempts to save the man’s life on scene.
Now investigators are trying to piece together exactly what happened.
Jacqueline Kirby with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation was challenging because of how dark it was outside and the rain. Kirby said gathering evidence is much easier during the day.
Tranters Creek Way is expected to be closed for several hours on Monday morning for the investigation.
The victim’s identity will not be released until positive identification is made and next of kin is notified.
