COLORADO SPRINGS – We’re getting a rare look into a special unit at Peterson Air Force Base as they review their work for the past year and focus on what’s ahead.

The 21st Space Wing provides missile warnings, missile defense, space situational awareness, and space control operations to combat forces around the world.

Colonel Todd Moore, commander of the 21st, says now airmen are focused on readiness in what’s being called “the year of the defender.”

“Over the next year, we’re going to focus intensely on our readiness and making sure we’re doing everything we can for our airmen to create white-space, for them to do the training and exercise for them to be ready for whatever the nation calls on them to do,” explained Col. Moore.

Peterson plays a large role in the Colorado Springs economy, employing about 10,000 personnel, with an annual economic impact of about $1.24 billion.
