Rockfall Mitigation Highway 24

MANITOU SPRINGS – If Highway 24 is part of your regular commute, be prepared for a lane changes all next week between Manitou Springs and Cascade due to rockfall mitigation work.

All traffic will be directed into the westbound lanes with only one lane reserved for each direction. There’s an 11 foot width restriction as crews are working in the area. Also, bicyclists are discouraged from entering the construction zone.

This part of the mitigation project will take place from Monday, October 8th to Thursday, October 11th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Friday, work will take place from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

CDOT is getting closer to wrapping up the $2.2 million project that started in June. CDOT and Apex Rockfall are working at 16 different locations removing scaled rocks, install rock anchors, install wire mesh and concrete barriers, install new guardrails and clean out ditches along the road.

Planners had expected this process to wrap up by the end of October, the date for completion is now sometime in November.
