COLORADO SPRINGS – A local non-profit that helps find a safe and loving home for foster children kicked off its latest donation campaign Wednesday night.
CASA, or Court Appointed Social Advocates, stands up for kids removed from abusive or neglectful homes. The volunteers work to protect children unable to understand the legal process or what is happening as a result of being removed from a dangerous environment.
The organization works to find the most suitable situation in foster care.
A woman helped by CASA volunteers told people at the fundraising event that between donations and volunteering, the people who helped her made a lasting impact on her life, and her two siblings who were placed in a new home.
According to CASA, the Pikes Peak Region has the highest number of calls made to the child abuse and neglect hotline for all of Colorado with 16,000 calls in 2017.
