FORT COLLINS – Most of us have been stuck on a tough math problem at one time or another. However, one 10-year-old child turned to 911 dispatchers for help on a tough division problem.
Fort Collins Police tweeted audio Tuesday afternoon of a 10-year-old 911 caller, who was confused about how to divide 3,052 by 71.
🔊⬆️ This wasn't a typical call for help, but we're glad Dispatch could still help solve this problem!
*Note: 911 is only for true emergencies. If you have homework that requires police assistance, please contact your SRO during school hours. They love helping their students. pic.twitter.com/OrtNe8BsfY

Honestly, we didn’t know it off the top of our heads either. The dispatcher didn’t disconnect the call and instead used a calculator to help the child solve the problem.
The 10-year-old thanked the dispatcher before moving on with the assignment.
Fort Collins Police shared the call, using it as a teachable moment for children to learn about actual emergencies, no matter how difficult math homework may be.
