COLORADO SPRINGS – Temperatures have dropped and made things feel more like Fall today. Lows tonight will be chilly. Some mountain areas, especially the valley, will drop to around freezing. If you live in one of those areas that tends to run cold, you might want to bring in any tender vegetation.
Lower elevation areas won’t be quiet as cold. we’re forecasting lows in the upper 30’s around Colorado Springs. That will give us our coldest morning since May 4th. 40’s heading our way tonight around Pueblo.
We may not be to freezing for the lower elevations yet, but it’ll happen before you know it. We’re less than a week away from our average first freeze date in Colorado Springs, October 1st. Pueblo’s average first freeze runs about a week after that, October 8th. Last year both Pueblo and Colorado Springs had their first freeze on October 9th.
Tonight should be the coldest night of the next several, which will take us beyond the average first freeze in Colorado Springs. With no big changes, we’ll be looking at a late first freeze for at least Colorado Springs, possibly even Pueblo. Long range models are keeping us above freezing all the way through the first week of October for now.
