WESTCLIFFE – Excessive speed, alcohol and marijuana may be to blame for a fatal motorcycle accident on Highway 96 east of Westcliffe on Saturday.

53-year old Robert Herrera and 34-year old Margaret Gallegos were riding with a group of about 40 motorcycles from a motorcycle club in Pueblo when the accident happened.

Neither of them was wearing a helmet when they were ejected from the bike. Several people attempted to do CPR  on Herrera to try and save him, but they were not successful. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Gallegos was also injured in the crash.

Two other motorcyclists crashed just after the first accident, but both of those riders took off before police arrived.
