KENTUCKY – A woman from Lamar, Colorado drowned Sunday after her car was swept away by floodwaters into a pond in Kentucky.

23-year-old Holli Pennington was in the area working as an intern at Silver Springs Stud farm in Paris, Kentucky. She graduated this spring from Colorado State University with a degree in Equine Science.

Pennington traveled to Kentucky this Spring to tour horse farms in the area and visit with veterinarians as she learned more about the industry.

Authorities said that deputies received a call just after noon Sunday reporting that a car was in the water. The car was not even visible when deputies showed up on the scene.

They later discovered the car had been pushed by the water into a pond to the side of the road.

A deputy had to wade into the water to try and locate it in waters more than 10-feet deep.  Crews who pulled the vehicle from the water found Pennington’s body inside. It appeared as if she was unable to attempt an escape.
