COLORADO SPRINGS – A new community report on homelessness is indicating progress in local efforts to end homelessness and identifies where more resources are needed.

The final report was prepared by Community Health Partnership, the administrator of the Pikes Peak Continuum of Care.

In the report it explains how each year, during the last 10 days of January, communities like ours complete a Point-In-Time count of people experiencing homelessness.

Here are some key insights from this year’s census:

  • Homelessness continues to rise in El Paso County
  • The majority of unsheltered people were previously housed in El Paso County
  • The number of shelter beds continues to increase, but many remain vacant
  • Veterans experiencing homelessness continue to be effectively identified, but struggle to find housing
