COLORADO SPRINGS – Two members of the Colorado Springs fire department are on their way to help out with hurricane Florence.
Nearly four dozen members of Colorado’s Task Force One are headed to North Carolina to help with rescue and recovery efforts needed once Hurricane Florence makes landfall. Task Force One members are based out of West Metro Fire. The team has assisted with numerous disasters, including the World Trade Center attack and many hurricanes.
The team is made up of doctors, paramedics, firefighters, and engineers. A hazardous materials unit also deploys with the team. It’s one of 28-FEMA task forces across the country.
They packed up several big trucks with equipment and supplies and headed out on Tuesday. They’re bringing various boats, truckloads of gear and even search dogs to their final destination.
