COLORADO SPRINGS – All lanes are now open on westbound Woodmen Rd. over Academy Blvd. following a fatal crash at 9:30 p.m. Monday night. The lanes were reopened around 2:00 a.m.

Police say the driver of a black Toyota sedan was killed when he collided with a white Dodge Ram pickup truck. The two people inside the truck are recovering from their injuries Tuesday morning.

Colorado Springs Police Lt. Howard Black says they continue to see the cause of these crashes to be speed, alcohol, drugs and distracted driving.

This is the second fatal accident in two days. A man was killed on Academy Blvd. south of Constitution on Saturday night.

Lt. Black says people need to pay attention and that trying to save a few minutes isn’t worth your life or someone else’s life.

If the accident is ruled as a traffic fatality by the El Paso County Coroner, this will be the 37th traffic-related death in Colorado Springs this year.

There were a total of 39-deaths in 2017.
