COLORADO SPRINGS – Ahead of Patriot Day, Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center is giving back to the men and women that have served.

“As a veteran myself,” said volunteer Jeff Major, “I think it’s so important we take care of each other.”

On Friday, more than 400 families and individuals received food, youth sports equipment, hygiene items, books and other goods. It was a part of Mt. Carmel’s annual Patriot Day Give Back. For Major, who has volunteered with the organization for the past four years, he has seen first hand just how important events like this are.

“I know it makes a big difference for a lot of people,” he said.

The event is a way for the service center to recognize veterans for their service and the sacrifices that they and their families have made. This is not just a one time thing, Mt. Carmel helps veterans year round.

“We have taken a lot of the resources and brought them together under one roof,” Major said. “They have behavioral health, they have financial, career adjustment, coming out of the military back into the civilian world. It is a lot of things going on.”
