Fort Carson soldier dies from non-combat injury in Afghanistan

Staff Sgt. Diobanjo S. Sanagustin, age 32, from National City, California, died Monday. According to the Department of Defense, Sanagustin’s death is under investigation.

AFGHANISTAN – A soldier from Fort Carson has died from a non-combat injury while serving at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Diobanjo S. Sanagustin, age 32, from National City, California, died Tuesday. The Department of Defense is currently investigating the incident but is not elaborating on the cause of death.

Sanagustin served as a squad leader in 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado. He served 11 years in the U.S. Army with deployments to Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Fort Carson officials say he just arrived at Fort Carson for his latest assignment in January. He deployed to Afghanistan in May 2018.

“He made a lasting impact on the Manchu formation and we will forever cherish his memory. Our deepest condolences are with the Sanagustin family,” said Lt. Col. David Uthlaut, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment commander.
