CHAFFEE COUNTY – Two people are dead and three others are injured after a serious accident early Tuesday morning in Chaffee County.

State Troopers say 57-year old Joel Rash was driving a Dodge pickup truck when he lost control of the truck and slammed into an oncoming car. Rash and his passenger, Sally Merritt-Rash were killed in the crash.

Three people were in the car that Rash slammed into on Highway 24 at mile marker 217. The car rolled down an embankment several times after it was hit. Ronaldrick Yazze and his passengers, one as young as 7-years of age, were all transported to a hospital in Salida.

Alcohol or drugs is not suspected, but the State Patrol says speed may have contributed to the accident.
