COLORADO SPRINGS – The nonprofit group “Shield 616” will make its first donation of body armor and bulletproof gear to Colorado Springs firefighters Wednesday.
The group will donate 24 kits to firefighters in a ceremony scheduled for Wednesday night.
A news release from Shield 616 reads in part, “Police officers and firefighters throughout Colorado Springs and El Paso County routinely face hostile situations, while most are peacefully resolved, some end in physical harm to the first responder.”
Shield 616 said it hopes sponsors will help the organization provide enough gear for all firefighters.
The gear will be presented to firefighters at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Fire Station 1 off of S. Weber Street.
