Great news in the recovery of Colorado Springs Police Officer Cem Duzel!

The department says his condition has been upgraded from critical to serious condition as he continues treatment for a gunshot wound to the head suffered while on duty earlier this month.

“Cem’s family has been thinking of words that best express the depth of their gratitude for our department and the community’s continuing and steadfast support for Cem. Thank you just doesn’t seem to convey what it means to his family for the countless online messages, prayers, and cards urging Cem to keep fighting. Just know that Cem’s family is so very grateful!!”

Officer Duzel suffered the grave injury on August 2nd as he responded to a call on E. Boulder for a man firing shots in the area.  Within minutes Duzel was shot in the head and fellow officers had the suspect in custody.

Medics rushed Duzel to UCHealth Memorial Central Hospital – the only Level 1 trauma center in southern Colorado – for emergency care. He started showing signs of improvement slowly with some movements on his own and the ability to take some breaths on his own within days.
