PUEBLO – Pueblo emergency crews said they’re using drones to possibly save lives in case of flooding along Fountain Creek.

Pueblo Police were out earlier this week flying the devices over Fountain Creek to find possible evacuation routes in case a flood happens.

Officers also used them to find people who were living near the creek. Officers said they asked them to sign up for emergency notifications that could give them warning of floods ahead of time.

“Now, the drone can go up and identify them, and hover over that particular location. It allows us to drive in as close as we can so we can get there quickly and get those people out of there,” Sgt. Shelly Taylor said.

Police said the drones have also been used to find criminals, map out crime scenes, and survey accidents.
