COLORADO SPRINGS – On August 6, softball-sized hail rained down from the sky hitting thousands of cars and homes in the Pikes Peak region.
This week, the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association said the total of that horrific hail storm is an estimated $172.8 million in insured damages.
RMIIA said the 21,000 car insurance claims filed resulted in more than $126.3 million and 6,000 property insurance claims added up to more than $46.5 million.
This storm is now ranked as Colorado’s 13th most expensive hail storm. It is the second major storm southern Colorado has had this summer. The first one happened on June 13. The damages from that are an estimated $169 million.
RMIIA wants to remind people that these hail storms are unfortunately part of a pattern the state has been experiencing the past several years. It means people need to be ready for anything. Check your insurance to know what it covers, what it doesn’t, and how much protection you have.
