DENVER – King Soopers is joining a growing list of stores across the nation offering exclusive shopping hours for seniors and other customers who may be at-risk during the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Effective Monday, April 13, King Soopers will dedicate the first two hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to senior citizens and those who may be immunocompromised. The announcement comes as store shelves around the nation have seen a drastic decrease in cleaning and food supplies in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“King Soopers wants to provide our at-risk customers with the ability to purchase the items they need while avoiding busier and more crowded shopping times,” said a spokesperson for the company in a news release, and asked that customers in other age groups respect those hours for the health of the community.
The store's operating hours will be as follows:
Monday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. (the first two hours of Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays will be dedicated to seniors and other people at risk).
King Soopers Pharmacy is also temporarily waiving fees for prescription delivery via mail or courier. To learn more about the options and availability, customers should contact their local pharmacy.
The supermarket is one of many stores offering shopping hours for seniors and those at greater risk of suffering from severe illness due to COVID-19.
Dollar General announced it would dedicate the first hour to seniors. Target joined the effort two days later, announcing it would dedicate the first hour of each Wednesday for “vulnerable guests.” Walmart said it would also begin offering seniors-only shopping hours on Tuesdays, from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. at most locations through April.

In the announcement made Thursday, King Soopers is also asking that customers be patient, be kind toward one another as well as their employees, and to shop responsibly during the public health crisis.
