COLORADO SPRINGS — Academy District 20 announced Thursday night that Frontier Elementary School will temporarily close on Friday, and Aspen Valley High School will move to eLearning until further notice.
D20 says there is one confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis at FES, but several staff and students were isolated and quarantined earlier this week.
On Thursday a second grade class was also quarantined.
The District feels closing for one day on Friday will provide extra time to plan the best way forward for the school and district, as they await test results.
The district also says because of the school's "slow start" closing for the day will have minimal impact.
FES will update staff and families on the next steps by Sunday.
Aspen Valley High School learned Thursday that a student who was last in the building on Monday is showing symptoms of COVID-19.
At this time the student has not tested positive, but due to close exposure with the symptomatic student several staff and students are now in quarantine.
AVHS started the school year with in-person learning but will now transition to eLearning until further notice.
Under guidelines from CDPHE and out of an abundance of caution the following steps are being taken at AVHS:
- The student will remain home until they are no longer infectious
- Any student or staff in close contact with the student and who is showing symptoms has also been instructed to be in quarantine for 14 days
- Parts of the school the student was in are temporarily closed for deep cleaning and disinfecting.
The building will not be accessible on Friday, Aug. 28.
